Overview
Description
TEC1-12705 Thermoelectric Cooler (Peltier) 40×40mm
The TEC1-12705 Thermoelectric Cooler Module is a compact solid-state component designed for electronic cooling and heating applications. Based on the Peltier effect, it transfers heat from one ceramic surface to the other when powered by a DC supply. This creates a cold side and a hot side, allowing the module to be integrated into custom thermal-management systems without using a compressor or moving parts.
With a compact 40 × 40 mm form factor, the TEC1-12705 is suitable for DIY refrigeration projects, portable cooling devices, electronics experiments, and temperature-control systems. Reversing the DC supply polarity reverses the direction of heat transfer, enabling the module to provide heating or cooling depending on the application.
The module is commonly operated from a 12V DC supply, with a maximum operating current of approximately 5A depending on the manufacturer's specifications. Its cooling performance depends on the electrical operating point, the temperature difference between its two surfaces, and the efficiency of the heatsink assembly. A suitable heatsink and thermal interface material are essential for transferring heat away from the hot side. Without adequate heat dissipation, the module may overheat and its cooling performance will decrease significantly.
The TEC1-12705 is useful for engineers, students, makers, and electronics developers building compact thermal systems or testing thermoelectric cooling principles. It can be combined with temperature sensors, thermostats, and suitable power-control circuits to create temperature-regulated prototypes. For reliable operation, mount the module between flat thermal surfaces with even pressure, protect it from moisture where condensation may occur, and do not exceed its specified voltage or current limits.
