Overview

Goot BS-10 is a 10g paste-type soldering aid designed to improve soldering on cables and large terminals by removing surface oxides and improving solder wettability.

Description

Goot BS-10 Soldering Flux Paste 10g

Product Description

The Goot BS-10 Soldering Flux Paste is a paste-type soldering aid developed by TAIYO ELECTRIC IND. CO., LTD. (GOOT) to improve soldering performance on cables, wires, and larger metal terminals. Its paste consistency allows it to remain in the applied area during soldering, making it easier to control compared with liquid fluxes that can spread away from the work area.

BS-10 helps remove surface contamination and metal oxides during the soldering process, improving solder wettability and allowing molten solder to spread more effectively across the prepared metal surface. This makes it useful when soldering applications require additional flux assistance, particularly on cables and larger terminals where surface oxidation can interfere with solder adhesion.

The flux is supplied in a 10g container, providing a practical quantity for repair benches, workshops, electrical maintenance, and general soldering work. Its paste formulation contains a high proportion of petroleum jelly, which contributes to the material's stable consistency during application. The manufacturer specifies a composition of 80–90 wt% Vaseline, 5 wt% zinc chloride, 1–10 wt% water, 1–10 wt% paraffin, and 1–5 wt% ammonium chloride.

A critical characteristic of BS-10 is that it is classified by GOOT as a weakly acidic soldering paste. Because of this, the manufacturer specifically states that it must not be used on printed circuit boards (PCBs). Residues from the acidic components can cause corrosion and may eventually lead to malfunction. For PCB assembly, electronics repair, and fine circuit-board work, a flux specifically designed for PCB use should be selected instead.

For application, GOOT recommends applying a small amount of BS-10 to the target area with a cotton swab or similar applicator before soldering. The paste should be used only where its chemical characteristics are appropriate, and the manufacturer's application restrictions should be followed.
